Conspiracy: age-old illness of democracy?

Between health crisis, climate crisis, and socioeconomic crisis, our civilizational choices and lifestyles implicate us in the future of humankind. We are passing through an area of turbulence that is placing us on the threshold of an anthropological rupture. From scientific discourse to political discourse to conspiracy discourse… the virus infects us physically as well as psychically. How can we subjectivize these unprecedented mutations that frighten us? Faced with the challenges of humanity, the imagination ignites during crisis situations. Conspiracy theories are a “solution” in the form of a projective defense mechanism, searching in outside sources for the perfect culprit to curb anxiety and turn away from real issues. Conspiracy feeds off official lies, letting anger flow into fantasies that are elevated to the rank of alternative truths: a fictional construction that endangers democracy. Between political and conspiratorial manipulation, between state perversion and paranoid fantasies, social networks lead the movement to the point of hysteria and deepen dissent.
