Most epidemics radically transform societies. Waves of pandemics in England and wider Europe, for example, profoundly changed political, economic, philosophic, and societal visions and values. This article sets out to briefly describe the way in which an extremely destructive, contagious virus not only embeds itself in living organisms but also in state structures, profoundly changing the way these structures function—in particular the judicial system, which shall be our focus here.
