Premature birth entails a great deal of separation between mother and baby, and a great deal of care for the child, sometimes accompanied by a bleak prognosis or diagnosis. This article explores ways of helping these young infants, whose bodies are confined to an incubator in the first moments of life, to take their rightful place in the arms and psyches of their parents. And thus become “subject of their own stories.”
