Les élus régionaux français sont une catégorie de personnel politique récente, qui connaît des transformations importantes. Ils ont d’abord été marqués par un recrutement plutôt notabiliaire (1964-1998), peu différent de celui des autres catégories de personnel politique, puis par une stabilisation et une « modernisation » en partie synonymes paradoxalement de dénotabilisation (1998-2010), et enfin par une « déstabilisation » qui n’a pas obéré les logiques de renotabilisation potentielle à l’œuvre (2010-2015).

They were first mostly recruited among ‘notables’ (1964-1998) and were then close to other categories of political elites. A period of stabilization and ‘modernization’ led paradoxically to a partial ‘de-notabilization’ (1998-2010). The last period (2010-2015), which was marked by a certain ‘destabilization’, did not however limit the potential ‘re-notabilization’ at work.
