RésuméEn complément des archives notariées, amplement utilisées par les historiens, les mémoires rédigés par les avocats ouvrent sur trois importants domaines de recherche. Ils aident d’abord à écrire une histoire de la justice et une histoire des notaires, puisque la procédure s’appuie largement sur des actes authentiques. Ils fournissent surtout une matière exceptionnellement riche pour écrire une histoire des familles. Le rôle des femmes, souvent caché, apparaît ici en pleine lumière.

Complementing notary archives, frequently used by historians, lawyers’ memoranda open up three important fields of research. First, they contribute to the writing of a history of justice, and second, of the notaries, since the procedure relied largely on notarial acts. Third ans most importantly, they provide exceptionally rich material on the history of the family. The role of women, often hidden in the sources, appears here in full light.
