The Paeans to Asclepius: Innovation and Continuity
Type de matériel :
1
Our study relies on a set of religious hymns engraved on steles. The paean of Erythrai –and its three copies–, these of Isyllos and Makedonikos dedicated to Asclepius all contain a mythical and genealogical development. The presence of a mythological sequence leads to the question of the choice of components, the mechanism of construction and the role of the poems. A comparison between the six texts will bring to light the heritages and the innovations to be compared to the most ancient variant of the myth and will distinguish the paeans which simply send a prayer to the divinity from those whose mythical narrative becomes a political instrument.
