Localisation and Origins of the Amyklaioi Dependant Community on the Plain of Mesara in Crete: a Relocation Attempt within the Typographical and Historical Context of the City of Gortyn
Type de matériel :
16
By exploring all the accessible epigraphic, narrative and archaeological evidence that dates from the Late Bronze Age to the Hellenistic times and is related to the sanctuary of Amyklaion, one seeks to determine, at first, the exact location for the sanctuary on the plain of Mesara, and then its origin and actual status towards Gortyn, against the background of ethnical reconfigurations occurring in Crete between the collapse of the palatial states and the Early Iron Age. The issue of clear references to Lacedaemonian toponymy and socio-political organisation as well as that of the Gortynian expansionism at the turn of the archaic to the classical epoch will be approached.
