Architecture in Strabo’s description of Asia Minor
Type de matériel :
95
In Strabo’s Geography, the books devoted to Asia Minor contain descriptions of cities and sanctuaries characterized by remarkable buildings, especially fortifications and temples. Inserted in the itinerary followed by the author, architectural references reveal the role of monuments in places’ identity building. These descriptions also contribute to situate a place in time and space. Even if architecture has a little place in Strabo’s interpretation of historical facts of his time, it is one of the indications showing that Asia Minor constitutes one of the centres of the world of Strabo.
