Le moi freudien a ceci de particulier qu’il se dote au fil du temps d’un certain nombre de doubles, qui ont pris des significations multiples et parfois contradictoires selon les théories. L’auteur passe en revue ces différentes conceptions dans la psychopathologie et la psychanalyse, après quoi il envisage les instances qui doublent le moi dans la seconde topique freudienne, et les diverses interprétations auxquelles elles ont donné lieu. Pour lui, il faut se référer aux trois miroirs correspondant aux relations constitutives de la psyché humaine si on veut y mettre un peu d’ordre et voir comment le moi peut se dégager de la violence incarnée par le double, sous quelque forme que ce soit.

The Ego and its Doubles The Freudian Ego is characteristic in the fact, with time passing by, it shelters a certain number of Doubles, that have taken multiple and sometimes even contradictory meanings depending on the theories. The author reviews these different concepts, in psychopathology and psychoanalysis, before studying the agencies which double the Ego in the second Freudian topography and the various interpretations they gave birth to. According to him, the three mirrors corresponding to the constitutive relationships of human psyche must be referred to, when trying to organize and understanding how the Ego can free itself from the Double’s violence, whatever it may be.
