L’auteur s’appuie sur son expérience de magicien auprès d’enfants hospitalisés en oncologie pour penser la question du travail de l’illusion. L’illusion magique peut être pensée en tant que phénomène transitionnel : le « tour de magie » est un phénomène trouvécréé, appartenant à la réalité externe tout en ayant ses propres lois, celles de l’univers interne. L’histoire qui donne sens au tour est co-créée dans la rencontre entre le magicien et l’enfant. Elle est ainsi une co-création artistique qui fait émerger une métaphore venant représenter le vécu de l’enfant sollicité par les effets de disparition, de transformation, etc. L’enfant aux prises avec ce trop plein de réel qu’est la maladie peut alors, avec la magie, se confronter à l’impossible qui, rendu possible, ouvre la voie à une créativité retrouvée. Il ne s’agit pas uniquement de pouvoir rire de la réalité (ce qui en soit est déjà beaucoup !), mais de pouvoir à nouveau la rêver.

The story that gives meaning to the trick is co-created by the meeting of the magician and the child. This artistic co-creation will give way to a metaphor that represents the life experiences of the child hooked on the effects of disappearance, transformation, etc. The child caught in his only too real illness, can then use magic as a mean to confront the impossible, transformed into possible, it gives way to a newfound creativity. It is not only laughing in the face of reality (which is quite a lot already !), but it is also about being capable of dreaming again.
