Affective memory as compositional instsrument: Mme de Staël’s Corinne
Type de matériel :
46
If Corinne is the first great novel of affective memory after La Nouvelle Héloïse and before Volupté, it is not owing to such or such brillant scene related to Italian music or Ossianic poetry but because the composition of the whole work is structured by spontaneous or triggered reminiscences affecting the heroes of the novel, both in terms of dramatic progression as well as mastery of repeated occurences and counterpoints.
