J.K. Galbraith décrit dans son ouvrage The New Industrial State (1974) une forme précise de capitalisme managérial, soulignant le rôle de la grande entreprise et de ses dirigeants dans la coordination des mécanismes marchands qui soutinrent la croissance des trente glorieuses. Ce schéma a été largement remis en causes dans la période récente par l’internationalisation des grandes entreprises et la montée de critères purement financiers dans leur gestion. Mais loin d’être une fatalité cette dérive résulte pour partie de celle qui saisit, sans opposition réelle, une partie opportuniste de ces classes « managériales ».

From a managerial capitalism to... an other J.K. Galbraith analyses in his 1974 book The New Industrial State a precise form of managerial capitalism. He stresses the role of large firms and of their managers in the development of the coordinated market mechanisms which insured the stready growth of the Golden Years of capitalism. This scheme has been largely challenged in the recent decades by the deeper internationalisation of these large firms and the rise of financial criteria in their governance. But far from being fatal this drift results largely from the one which affects, unopposed, an opportunistic share of CEOs.
