Que font les petits-enfants de l’histoire et des valeurs de leurs grands-parents quand ceux-ci ont connu l’immigration et traversé des épreuves majeures ? Comment se transmettent au sein des familles d’une génération à l’autre les traumatismes et les valeurs ? Quel regard les descendants des immigrés portent-ils sur leur histoire familiale ? Comment assument-ils la difficile responsabilité d’en témoigner ? Comment construisent-ils leur identité ? Cet article apporte une contribution à ces questions à partir d’entretiens avec des petits-enfants de grands-parents juifs venus de Pologne en France qui ont connu l’exil, la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la Shoah et les bouleversements historiques de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle.

The fact of being “third generation” immigrants in France : the example of the grandchildren of Jews coming from PolandWhat do grandchildren do with the history and values of their grandparents when the latter have experienced immigration and undergone major ordeals ? How are traumatisms and values transmitted within families from one generation to another ? How do the descendents of immigrants view their own family history ? How do they deal with the difficult responsibility of bearing witness to it ? How do they construct their identity ? This article aims to answer some of these questions by means of interviews with the grandchildren of Jewish grandparents who came to France from Poland, experiencing exile, the SecondWorldWar, the Holocaust and the historical upheavals of the second half of the 20th century.

¿ Que hacen los nietos con la historia y los valores de sus abuelos cuando estos han vivido la inmigración y atravesado grandes sufrimientos ? ¿Como se transmiten en las familias los traumatismos y los valores de una generación a otra ? ¿Que visión tienen los descendientes de los inmigrantes de su historia familiar ? ¿Como construyen su identidad ? El artículo aporta una contribución a estas cuestiones a partir de entrevistas con los nietos de abuelos judios que llegaron a Francia procedentes de Polonia y que vivieron el exilio, la Segunda Guerra mundial, el Holocausto y los desequilibrios históricos de la segunda mitad del siglo XX.
