This work reports on research conducted by a group from IPSYC1 around conjugal psychic conflictuality with, as a corollary issue, a look at how the group formed by the couple and the clinician can come to an understanding of it and treat it. Conjugal psychic conflictuality, as distinct from the subject’s internal conflictuality, is not so much the resonance between the two psychic conflictualities of each of the partners, but a couple-based ( couplal) psychic production. This becomes manifest within the neo-group formed by the clinician and the couple by the emergence of threatening imagos. The author adopts the hypothesis that, in the analytical work with a couple, this neo-group allows for a switch from one stage of groupedness to another, leading to the downfall of threatening imagos.
