La guerre navale pendant les XVIIIe et XIXe siècles prend un poids déterminant dans les nombreuses confrontations géostratégiques. La marine et la guerre navale se caractérisent par une forme stable en lente évolution sur plus de deux siècles, avec une apogée stabilisée au début du XIXe siècle. Cette « organisation » stable ne sera remise en cause qu’à partir de 1850, avec ce faisceau d’innovations que seront la propulsion vapeur, la structure de fer et le projectile explosif. Characteristics of the naval war, 18th to 19th centuriesNaval warfare during the 18th and 19th centuries had a key geostrategic role in many confrontations. Marine and naval warfare were characterized by a stable form slowly evolving over two centuries, with a peak stabilized in the early 19th century. This stable “organization” was questioned from 1850, with the beam of innovations of the period: steam powered, iron structure and explosive projectile.
