On Some Facets of the Violence Meted out to Women in Algeria

The author introduces the results of a research work on domestic violence conducted with a hundred Algerian women living in a small town in the interior of the country. The research objective was to better understand the psychological experience of these women, their reactions, the consequences of the (psychic and somatic) violence they suffer from, and the support they can be afforded by their families... and, in so doing, to propose hypotheses so as better to understand the reasons for which women having been subjected to violence for so many years continue to stay living with their aggressors. It would appear that these women are taken up in a kind of “low intensity war”, like that waged against civil populations, made up of disinformation, control and repression.
