From separation to breakup?

When a couple separates, the bonds are distended but not definitively broken. Effective separation may suffer delay for various reasons. Firstly, because one or both spouses may not wish, in the light of personal convictions, to consider breaking the conjugal bond. Secondly, because the spouses may find themselves confronted with the slow pace of divorce proceedings. Finally, and more generally, separation also involves a return to financial and property autonomy, requiring each of them to decide how they will divide the assets acquired during their life in common. With respect to the children they have together, the French legislator in 2002 limited the effects of the parental couple’s breakdown by keeping the child away from the conflicts and upheavals caused by their parents splitting up, thus establishing the notion of co-parenting in the interests of the children. But there is also a need to guarantee that the child can continue to maintain the bonds he or she enjoyed with others in the family environment (brothers and sisters, grandparents, etc.).
