Meanwhile, paradoxically, while firmly anchored in its epoch, it is a vector for social transmission.Studying the tale of Hansel and Gretel, the authors share their reflections on the functions and roles of the folktale in its various intra-, inter- and trans- psychic dimensions. The negative female figures portrayed, and the process of Gretel’s counter-identification reflect identity building but also the social and historical representations of the feminine as handed down over time.
