Within the placement service where the first-mentioned author of this paper works as a psychologist, longitudinal research has been developed to explore the psychological functioning of adolescent perpetrators of sexual violence and methods for their educational and therapeutic support. We propose to focus on foster care placements, with the relational dynamics indicating the specific relationships forged with the first objects within the host family. Nicolas’ situation highlights the difficulties, misunderstandings and attrition that seem to be re-enacted into a repeat scenario leading to separation. The authors adopt a psychodynamic perspective to achieve a better understanding of the psychic movements at work on the teenager’s side, in particular on an intersubjective level, along the lines developed by René Kaës. This leads on to consideration of the necessary adjustments to be made within the educational-therapeutic support systems.
