How couples regard oocyte donation
Type de matériel :

Based on their experience as clinical psychologists, the authors highlight the psychological issues relating to the decision to receive an oocyte donation for couples. The mourning of female fertility, resorting to a donor and the birth of a child half of whose genetic heritage is unknown involve different issues and renunciations for each member of the couple. To avoid marital rivalry and conflict, as also phantasies and anxieties associated with the donor, couples downplay the latter’s role and the significance of genetic parentage in relation to pregnancy. When the pact of denial prevents an elaboration process, what has not been processed psychologically may resurface later and be damaging to the couple and the family. Psychologists play a major role in helping these couples work through these issues before committing themselves to the process.
