The application of the psychoanalytical method to Chabrol’s film La Fleur du Mal points out a form of transgenerational transmission in a lineage. The transmission of secrets, of shame, of guilt over three generations seems to prevent the work of subjectivation of the family history to take place in each generation. In this film we are also faced with the important function of the family house as a place which contains the family memory. The question which prompts the director is the following: is it possible to escape a destiny that has already been written?
