Clinical Approach to Family Traumas in Institutionalized Children

Clinicians working with children in institutions must often deal with traumatic family traces that are difficult to analyse into the psyche of the child. From two clinical vignettes, this article examines the status and the impact of family history in the psyche of the child. In the here and now of the clinical encounter, a trace is co-constructed by the clinician and the child. The authors call it “the authorized trace.” It allows to follow the “traceability” of the subjective process experience.
