The author looks at the evolution of the North American intersubjectivist trend whose leader is R. Stolorow. She detects in his work a radical reconsideration of the psychoanalytical theory and practice based on the concept of individual psyche which is seen there as a pernicious Cartesian myth. In his work this concept is replaced by the notion of subjective experience, of the “world of experience” and he suggests an increasing review of the concept of the unconscious, in a theoretical structure where philosophical concepts become essential supports. The author analyses the input, limits and pitfalls encountered in these ideas and reveal their ideological side. She concurrently questions their theoretical scope and clinical benefits in the field of family psychoanalysis.
