Initially formulated in Great Britain and France, socialist ideas were gradually exported to the eastern periphery of the European continent in the first half of the nineteenth century, particularly to Poland, Romania and Russia. This process raises many questions: how could these ideological constructions, conditioned by new historical issues specific to Western Europe (industrialization, urbanization, etc.), adapt to the cultural context of territories that were very different economically, socially and politically? This article intends to contribute to solving this enigma by presenting the main determinants that led to the transfer of French socialist ideas to Poland during the period 1831-1848.
