The author discusses the reasons of the belief in « love at first sight » whatever is the reality of the phenomenon, and suggests the idea of the « fantasy of love at first sight ». These reasons are linked to the great value granted to narcissism, the treatment of the guilt, the building of the myth of origins, and the maintenance of passion. Then the author considers that « love at first sight » is coming from a new version of the original experience, like the one of the impact of « aesthetic object » and of « aesthetic conflict » described by Meltzer. Finally he asks the question of the role of « love at first sight » for the length of the life of the couple.
