Commitment to a humanism in healthcare

Humanism in healthcare is illusory without first recognizing similarities shared by all human beings, especially therapists and family members with whom we work, as well as colleagues within or external to an institution. But we still need to approve the “Other” explicitly as a fellow human being: ways to do this will be explored in this article. The experience of the pandemic and the semi-confinement have allowed us to explore these issues in more detail. The main obstacle to this approach lies in the dominant meta-values in our society, which are in turn dependent on the processes of grief and loss. These observations allow us to specify the conditions for a resolute commitment to a humanism in healthcare.
