Based on a clinical situation that concerns a farmer in a situation of over-indebtedness, the author describes his psychic path with regard to an unconscious family issue that has not been worked out, an issue that is part of a path of economic migration, raising questions of generational rupture and moral and symbolic debt, proving to be decisive in the material as well as psychic situation of the patient. The author also shows how it is possible, within the framework of individual interviews and under certain conditions, to elaborate a family group situation that calls upon the family history and the transgenerational, allowing the patient to shift sufficiently from his status as a symptom-bearer of the family group to free himself from the spiral of symptomatic repetition, in this case acted out in the form of over-indebtedness.
