La question de la créativité est centrale dans l’œuvre de Winnicott. Elle s’origine pour lui dans le fait de trouver/créer l’objet de satisfaction. L’auteur souligne l’écart entre ce point de vue et celui de Freud sur la sublimation et pose la question de la place de la pulsion dans ce trouvé/créé. Il la situe dans l’introjection de la pulsion dans le moi qui suppose, dans un premier temps, un environnement étroitement adapté aux besoins de l’enfant, puis une distanciation progressive de l’objet externe qui laisse place au travail psychique de l’enfant, tout en étant capable de résister à ses attaques destructrices pour permettre une introjection toujours plus profonde de la pulsion dans le moi.

The creativity is a central issue all along Winnicott’s work. In his thinking creativity stems from the action of finding/creating the object of satisfaction. The author underlines the gap between this point of view and Freud’s point of view about sublimation and he questions the role of the impulse in this finding/creating issue. He sets it in the introjection of the impulse within the ego needing at first an environment strictly adapted to the infant’s needs, then an progressive distancing of the external object which gives place to the child’s psychic work while being able to resist his destructives attacks allowing a more profound introjection of the impulse within the ego.
