Avant de devenir océaniste, B. Juillerat réalisa des enquêtes de terrain et une thèse (1968) chez les montagnards Mouktélé, dans une région reculée de l’extrême-nord du Cameroun, totalement inconnue sur le plan ethnographique. Ayant elle-même travaillé chez les montagnards voisins, les Mofu-Diamaré, Jeanne-Françoise Vincent expose ici les principaux thèmes de recherche abordés par Juillerat – migrations et autochtonie, pouvoir religieux et/ou pouvoir politique, structures lignagères et mariage – en replaçant sa minutieuse ethnographie dans un cadre régional plus large.

Before being an Oceanist, B. Juillerat did fieldworks in North-Cameroon and wrote a thesis about the Mouktélé, who live in a remote and then not studied area. Jeanne-Françoise Vincent has done intensive anthropological studies in this area, among the mountaineers Mofu-Diamaré and she introduces the main research topics of Juillerat – migrants and autochthonous people, religious power and/or political power, linage organization and marriage – and replaces his minute ethnography back in a broader regional setting.
