La découverte de nouveaux manuscrits conduit à une révision d’ensemble du corpus des œuvres de Saussure et permet de modifier en profondeur l’interprétation de sa pensée, tout à la fois obscurcie et simplifiée par l’histoire de sa réception. Nous étudierons donc les problèmes philologiques et herméneutiques que posent l’établissement et l’interprétation du corpus saussurien. Les critères philologiques d’authenticité et de degré d’élaboration, les critères herméneutiques de genre et de projet théorique demandent à être articulés. Le corpus saussurien comporte-t-il un ou plusieurs points d’entrée privilégiés ? Un texte en est-il le centre organisateur ? Comment composer avec les régimes herméneutiques divers des ébauches manuscrites, notes de cours et textes publiés par l’auteur ? Publiée ou non, l’œuvre de Saussure doit être considérée comme un corpus et la sémantique des textes théoriques ne pourra que s’affiner en affrontant cette œuvre difficile.

Reading Saussure’ texts The discovery of new manuscripts has led to a revision of the entire corpus of Saussure’s works and will fundamentally change the interpretation of his thought, which had been both simplified and obscured by the history of its reception. We shall study the philological and hermeneutical problems posed by the establishment and interpretation of the Saussurean corpus. The philological criteria of authenticity and of its degree of development, the hermeneutical criteria of genre and theoretical project need to be articulated. Does the Saussurean corpus provide one entry point or several ? Is one text the organizing center ? How are we to deal with the various hermeneutical regimes of the draft manuscripts, lecture notes and texts published by the author ? Whether published or unpublished, the works of Saussure should be regarded as a corpus, and the semantics of theoretical texts cannot fail to be redefined by confronting this difficult work.
