RésuméSi l’ethnopsychiatrie rencontre parfois des réticences et des réserves auprès de certains cliniciens, c’est qu’elle heurte les principes constitutifs du savoir psychiatrique. La mise en place de la psychiatrie moderne et de sa nosographie, au début du XIXème siècle, est en effet contemporaine d’une révolution politique et culturelle, qui promeut le sujet, mais met en cause les fondements surnaturels du pouvoir. Elle disqualifie par là-même toute référence à un au-delà du visible et fait de l’anatomopathologie un cadre étiologique indépassable. Au XXème siècle, la réévaluation freudienne et l’ethnopsychiatrie redonnent statut à l’invisible.

The invisible: Psychiatry, history and practice of othernessIf transcultural psychiatry faces an attitude of reservation on behalf of certain clinicians, it is because it goes against the basic principles of psychiatric knowledge.The instauration of modern psychiatry and its nosography at the beginning of the 19th century happened at the same time as a political and cultural revolution promoting the subject but incriminating the supernatural foundation of power. Thus, every reference to elements beyond the visible is discredited and anatomical pathology becomes the impassable etiological framework. In the 20th century, through Freudian re-evaluation and transcultural psychiatry the status of the invisible is restored.

ResumenSi la etnosiquiatría encuentra a veces reticencias y reservas de la parte de ciertos profesionales es porque se choca con los principios constitutivos del saber siquíatrico.La aparición de la siquiatría moderna y de su nosografía, a comienzos del siglo XIX es en efecto contemporanea a una revolución política y cultural que promociona al sujeto, pero que critica los fundamentos sobrenaturales del poder, descalificando así toda referencia a un más - allá de lo visible, y haciendo de la anatomopatología un cuadro etiológico infranqueable. Durante el siglo XX, la reevaluación freudiana y la etnosiquiatría restituyen un estatus a lo invisible.
