Is Spatial Mobility Beneficial for Young Skilled and Unskilled Workers?

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2008. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This study deals with skilled and unskilled workers’ early careers. We seek to identify the impact of spatial mobility on the workplace integration of young internal migrant workers in France. We focus on young people employed as “skilled” and “unskilled” workers – according to a French classification – three years after leaving school. Spatial mobility refers here both to a change in job location and to migration distance. Our geographic units of study are France’s 341 local labor markets (Zones d’Emploi: ZEs). Surprisingly, few studies have been carried out using this segmentation, despite the fact that ZEs offer a better economic framework for analyzing occupational mobility. All the estimation procedures used here show a significant link between migration distance and wage advantage for the workers studied.
