Depuis la fin de la Guerre froide, les États-Unis sont parvenus à empêcher l’émergence d’une nouvelle puissance nucléaire. Néanmoins, dans le cas iranien, l’usage de la force étant, pour l’instant, exclu par l’administration Obama, la position américaine s’en retrouve affaiblie. L’hypothèse d’un Iran nucléaire pourrait déclencher un effet domino, notamment en Arabie séoudite qui pourrait être tentée de se nucléariser ou de se mettre sous la protection d’une autre puissance nucléaire comme le Pakistan.

Since the end of the Cold War, the United States have been able to prevent the emergence of a new nuclear power in the Middle East. However, in the case of Iran, the use of force, currently being ruled out by the Obama Administration, the American position is weakened. If Iran were to go nuclear, it could lead to a domino effect, especially in Saudi Arabia which could be tempted to go nuclear or to place itself under the protection of another nuclear power such as Pakistan.
