This article analyses the relationship between political ecology and nature conservation in the 1970s. At first sight, the politicization of ecology seems to move away from this topic: nature conservationists could not be activists because they would focus on pollution consequences rather than trying to do away with the cause. Yet, a study of ecology political networks and local groups can deconstruct the notion of "environmentalism," highlighting various practices and ways of politicizing the environmental movements of 1970s France.
