Poussin / Fénelon: Intention / reception
Type de matériel :
1
The exhibition Poussin et Dieu, held in Paris in 2015, reignited a debate : was Poussin pagan or Christian ? The present article examines Jacques Thuillier’s work on the topic, and aims to understand its underlying assumptions and the limits of an “intentional” criticism. Using Fénelon’s writing on Poussin, a parallel with history and literary criticism provides methodological lessons and pushes historians of spirituality to reflect on their practice.
