In the middle of the 17th century, Francisco de la Reguera, translator of Lucian’s True Stories, added a third book to the original, a unique continuation of this parodical novel in Golden Age Spain. This Libro tercero de las Historias Verdaderas requires two readings, as we show in this article: according to the first, it may be an ingenuous but faithful imitation of the Samosatian’s playful style; according to the second, it proves to be a sharp criticism of the court and bad government of Philip IV of Spain and his favourite, Olivares, since the author, a disgraced courtier, expresses his own disillusion through Lucianic satire.
