The detailed and illustrated catalog of François Chauveau’s engraved work is more or less complete and settled. It now comprises 3,000 entries. In this article, we examine the merits of making such a catalog. It will also be an opportunity to review the catalog, with regard to both its form and its organization. In fact, the inventory of the artist published by Roger-Armand Weigert in 1951 is now incomplete and obsolete, and it contains many errors. It was therefore decided to revise it in its entirety and to illustrate it. Yet, Dominique Larcena, who published his book on François Chauveau in 2009, took the decision not to create a catalog, which led him to increase the number of oversights and misinterpretations.
