Ecological utopia? A crossed reflexion on Theodor W. Adorno, Ernst Bloch and Hans Jonas

This article aims to discuss Hans Jonas’ critique of Ernst Bloch’s utopian thought in The Imperative of Responsibility, and it tries to propose an alternative path with Theodor W. Adorno. The tension between Adorno’s negative utopia and Bloch’s positive utopia leads to an original scheme to interpret the utopian perspectives of the ecological movements and issues today. The impossibility of foreseeing any perfect society in the future and the necessity to believe in the present fragile attempts become two faces of a common goal: the requirement to break with the domination on nature that characterizes our societies and our history.
