The fourteenth edition of the RIPSYDEVE symposium, led by the Epsylon Psychology Research Unit in Montpellier, aimed to strengthen the interaction between research and practice and raise the profile of research in developmental and educational psychology. In particular, the theme of socio-emotional development featured prominently at the symposium. Socio-emotional issues are now central to our conception of individuals and their development. Current models propose various socio-emotional skills that have been shown to have a significant impact on the health, well-being, and academic and social success of children and adolescents. Based on this observation, numerous training programs for socio-emotional competences have been developed and are now recommended for inclusion in school curricula worldwide. Since the design of this type of program is based on existing scientific knowledge, there is a vital need to continue improving our understanding of the development of socio-emotional skills. This thematic issue helps achieve this objective, and prompts reflections about possible applications in the fields of education and health in particular.
