Whether supporting those with mental disorders or crewing a rescue ship in the central Mediterranean, our approach is the same: we stand alongside those without faces, without land, and without rights, on islands battered by the winds of the great confinement. We are the last dikes the waves break against. To protect both our humanity and theirs, we have no choice but to build temporary islands to take shelter and re-energize—asylums (in the noble sense of the word) in the abyss which allow us to reopen our thought and continue to welcome and heal.
