Fati arrived in France in 2008. “It was simply because of the war.” She came in order to protect her children. She had to wait no less than five years before she obtained subsidiary protection—a temporary decision. After staying in a cada, she lived in emergency shelters, longer-term shelters, and social housing. In her country of origin in Africa, Fati had worked as a midwife. Here, she is nothing. She is now fighting so that her children can go to school, and she would like to create an association to offer health assistance to those in her country. Fati is addressing France, so that it might finally adopt a genuine policy of refuge.
