The diplôme d’État d’accompagnant éducatif et social (deaes) (state diploma for educational and social support workers) was created on January 29, 2016, the first product of the reform of social work diplomas. It was the result of the merger of two existing diplomas—those for social life assistants and for medico-psychological assistants—and covered a profession for which no diploma had existed until that point: school life assistants. This article focuses on those who have chosen to train as educational and social support workers (aess), supporting inclusive education and ordinary life through the professional practices they develop during their training.
