Sexual abuse always causes immense psychic suffering for victims, especially children. Violence and sexuality are always linked, even if the abuse took place without violence, which is the case for most children. Adults should always know how to listen to children in relation to their psychosexual development and their needs, remembering that they, too, were once children. In abuse, necessary tenderness can be transformed into trauma and wreak havoc in the emotional and sexual development of the children in their adult lives.
