The regional daily press: An information model under stress

In this article, we analyze how the regional daily press has changed over the past twenty-five years. Developments linked to digital technology, but also in terms of business models and territorial relationships, have contributed to the transformation of the most widely-read type of newspaper in France. More specifically, the four founding pillars of this type of media, that is, its role in the local public arena (1), its proximity and “service” function (2), its “comprehensive” reading of the world (3) as well as its editorial integration and its intervention in the construction of territories (4), have all been overturned.
