“Lula in prison” in Brazil: The digital expression of the ethos of victim and candidate on Twitter

This article analyzes former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s tweets during his incarceration between April 2018 and November 2019. The aim is to use a communicative approach to identify the way in which this politician expressed himself in the face of the accusations of corruption that landed him in prison. Our quanti-qualitative approach, combining statistical analysis of texts with argumentative discourse analysis, identifies the discursive thrusts mobilized in the publications of Lula’s official Twitter account during this period, which revolve around the ethos of victim and the ethos of candidate.
