Lending one’s psyche in order to provide care

Léa was exposed to a brutal trauma. At the age of two, she had no representations to give meaning to the violence of her experiences. The continuity of care, and my presence with Léa immediately after the events, facilitated the therapeutic work. Understanding the trauma involved different stages, depending on Lea’s capacity for integration, in order to arrive at the figuration, the linking and putting into words of the events. The therapist contains the unthinkable without verbalizing the story “from the outside,” which would lead to an unelaborated neo-history.
