The challenges of supporting protected children with disabilities

This article proposes a model for understanding the troubling behavior of children in care, their ruptured placement paths, and their relational difficulties with professionals. Drawing on complementary knowledge from psychoanalysis and research on psychotrauma and attachment, it suggests ways to support children in “situations of instability,” and highlights the need to devise appropriate systems and institutional responses for these “polytraumatized” children.
