Dans cet article, nous nous proposons de réévaluer la question de la cohérence de la pensée platonicienne dans le Théétète et le Timée, au sujet de la théorie de la vision exposée dans les deux dialogues. Contre un courant d’interprétation récent qui voit dans le Timée l’exposition de la théorie platonicienne et dans le Théétète l’exposition puis la réfutation d’une théorie généralement mobiliste, nous défendons non pas l’identité des deux dialogues, mais leur complémentarité quant au statut de la vision. Pour ce faire, nous entreprenons une réfutation des principaux arguments mobilisés contre la cohérence de la pensée platonicienne, tout en mettant au jour de nombreux rapprochements inaperçus des commentateurs entre les deux dialogues. L’établissement de la complémentarité des deux dialogues nous permet, par la suite, de préciser la place et la destination du Théétète au sein des dialogues dits tardifs.

In this paper, we propose to re-evaluate the question of the coherence of Platonic thought in the Theaetetus and the Timaeus, with regard to the theory of vision exposed in the two dialogues. Going against a recent current of interpretation which sees in the Timaeus the exposition of Platonic theory and in the Theaetetus the exposition and then the refutation of a generally mobilist theory, we defend not the identity of the two dialogues, but their complementarity concerning the status of vision. To do so, we undertake a refutation of the main arguments mobilized against the coherence of Platonic thought, while revealing numerous points of convergence, unnoticed by commentators between the two dialogues. Establishing complementarity of the two dialogues subsequently allows us to clarify the place and destination of the Theaetetus within the so-called late dialogues.
