RésuméL’article illustre un parcours universitaire réalisé en géographie rurale des années 1980 à nos jours. D’abord spécialisé sur le thème de la diversification de l’espace rural en France autour d’une recherche doctorale sur la géographie du renouvellement agricole, le profil s’oriente, à l’occasion d’une insertion professionnelle, vers la question du paysage rural et de son aménagement. L’évolution d’une telle problématique est révélatrice d’un changement radical du contenu social et économique des campagnes françaises. Hier dominé par le fait agraire, l’espace rural devient également résidentiel, récréatif ou lieu de préservation de la nature. Certains ruralistes, investissent alors le paysage comme objet d’études à part entière, ce dernier étant révélateur des évolutions sociales et économiques des espaces ruraux associés.

Of the rural geography in the analysis of the landscapesThe article demonstrates a rural geography academic career from the 1980s to nowadays. First specialized on the topic of diversification of rural areas in France through PhD researches about the geography of the agricultural renewal, the profile moved, during a work experience, to the issue of rural landscape and its development. The evolution of such a problem reveals a radical change of social and economic contents in the French countryside. In the past, rural areas were dominated by the agrarian. They are now also residential, recreational or places of nature. Some ruralists then use the landscape as an object of study as a whole, the latter being indicative of social and economic changes of the rural areas combined with it.
