Les libelles, les mémoires et les traités de cour font le récit de ces incivilités extraordinaires, soit pour participer à l’action politique en suscitant le scandale, soit pour mettre en débat la civilité comme herméneutique des comportements en société, soit pour donner occasion au lecteur d’exercer sa prudence ou sa piété.

In the first half of the 17th century, the favor of the most prominent courtiers was manifested by an ostentatious right to incivility, especially towards the king. Pamphlets, memoirs and court books recounted these extraordinary incivilities, to participate in political action by causing scandal, to discuss civility as an interpretation of social behavior, or to give the reader the opportunity to exercise prudence or piety.
